The Light Lens Society

The Light Lens Society

This is the space where the Light Lens framework is explored and applied in real-world contexts.  It brings together people working with children across different environments - homes, classrooms, communities and organisations - who are interested in supporting how children understand their inner world.

Over time, these observations begin to connect.  What is seen in one place can inform another. What is understood in one context can deepen elsewhere.

In this way, the Society becomes a shared, ongoing exploration:

Can a simple language for understanding the inner world travel far enough to make a meaningful difference?

The approach

At the centre of the Society is the Light Lens framework. A simple way of understanding inner experience through the metaphor of light and stones.

- Light represents who a child is - their qualities, strengths, values, goals, dreams and more;
- Stones represent what they experience - challenges, difficulties and life events;
- Signals are what are noticed - through feelings and behaviour - when something a stone is pressing on the light, or light is being expressed.

The framework is intentionally simple, so it can:
- be used without specialist training;
- adapt across different contexts;
- and grow with the child over time.

Alongside the core language, the Society explores a wider set of principles and lenses that support deeper reflection on children’s experiences.

What happens inside

The Society is structured as a steady, ongoing space for application and reflection.

Each month focuses on one aspect of the framework, explored through real use rather than theory alone. Members are supported to apply the framework within their own context and reflect on what they notice.

The Society includes:
- a monthly live online gathering (60–75 minutes);
- access to the full Light Lens framework, including the extended lenses;
- a shared space for reflection and discussion;
- support in applying the framework to different environments;
- an evolving collection of observations and insights gathered over time;
- and connection with others working with children in different contexts and parts of the world.

How it is used in practice

There is no single way the framework is intended to be used. Its simplicity allows it to adapt across a wide range of situations.

- In classrooms, it may support children to separate identity from difficulty.
- At home, it may provide a shared language for understanding feelings.
- In community settings, it may help open conversations that are otherwise difficult to access.
- In more complex environments, it may offer a non-clinical way to explore inner experience.
- In lower-resource contexts, it can be used without materials, training or formal systems.

A global perspective

The Society is designed to bring together perspectives from different parts of the world.

Children grow up in very different circumstances, but the need to make sense of inner experience is universal.

By connecting people working in varied environments, the Society allows:
- patterns to be observed across contexts;
- ideas to be shared and adapted;
- and understanding to develop collectively.

This is not a fixed programme.
It is a space where learning emerges through use, reflection and shared experience.

A developing space

The Society is in its early stages.
This means the structure is established, but the understanding within it is still growing.
Members contribute not only by attending, but by applying the framework and sharing what they observe.
In this way, the direction of the work is shaped over time.

Who it is for

The Society is open to anyone with an interest in supporting children’s inner development.

This includes:
- parents and caregivers;
- teachers and school staff;
- practitioners and therapists;
- community workers;
- and organisations supporting children in different contexts.

No specific qualifications are required.
The framework is designed to be accessible, and support is provided for applying it in different environments.

Access and contribution

For individuals joining independently, founding membership to the Society is offered through a one-time contribution for lifetime access.

For organisations and individuals working in lower-resource contexts, places may be offered at no cost, to support wider access and participation.

This reflects the wider intention of the work - to explore how far a simple, shared language can travel when it is held across many different contexts.

Why this exists

Children around the world are growing up with very different levels of support for understanding themselves.

Some are given language and guidance.
Many are not.

This work exists to explore whether that gap can begin to shift.

Not through a single solution, but through something simpler - a shared language, used in real situations, across many environments.
